GEM Motoring Assist are running a special 'add a driver for free' offer on all of their breakdown policies until 30th April. This means that you can get joint breakdown cover (for two individuals living at the same address) for the price of a single policy and family cover (up to 4 people living at the same address) for the price of a standard joint policy.
They offer a choice of three breakdown policies - Roadside, Recovery Reclaim and Recovery Extra - and cover members in any vehicle they are driving.
What makes it great?
As part of their '2 for 1' breakdown deal GEM Motoring Assist currently offer the cheapest joint breakdown policy available from any provider; their Joint Roadside offering is priced at just £46.35.
What's more, although they offer value for money cover, GEM Motoring Assist don't compromise on the level of protection they provide their members with. As testament to this they were voted number 1 for roadside assistance by Auto Express readers in the Driver Power Survey 2008.
Who would it suit?
This offer is tailored to help individuals looking for a joint or family roadside assistance policy save money. That said, GEM Motoring Assist is reasonably competitive for single cover too.
What's the catch?
The 'add a free driver' offer is only available until 30th April, 2009 so you will need to take out a breakdown policy before then in order to take advantage of the deal.
What's more, as with any type of insurance policy it's important that you match the benefits offered with the level of assistance you need. This is the only way to ensure that you get real value for money and don't get caught short if you breakdown on the road.
What's the alternative?
Both the AA and the RAC offer basic vehicle based cover from £29 so this could be a good alternative if you and a partner or friend share just one car.
Alternatively, Liverpool Victoria price their Joint Roadside Assist policy at £51.70 (the next best price available for joint breakdown cover) and include recovery as standard which GEM Motoring Assist do not as part of their basic Roadside policy.
