Orange have launched the UK's cheapest mobile contract with 50 minutes & 50 texts for just £4.89 a month.
This week Orange have launched the cheapest pay monthly mobile contract on the market.
Named Orange 5 it includes 50 'anytime' minutes, 50 texts and a free Nokia 2630 phone for just £4.89 a month.
However, there is a catch; to take advantage of the deal you will need to sign up to a 36 month contract; although Orange soften the blow a little by promising to upgrade your mobile phone at the 18 month mark.
For those who require a little more 'credit' Orange have also launched Orange 10. At £9.79 a month this includes 100 'anytime' minutes, 300 texts and a free phone although it too is only available on a 36 month plan.
While these new deals may seem the perfect alternative for those who currently use pay as you go it's worth bearing in mind that the deals come with several out-of-plan costs:
- Extra calls from your phone to other Orange phones, to landlines, and to any other network cost 24.5p per minute.
- Calls to your answer phone will cost 24.5p per minute.
- Additional texts cost 14.7p each.
- A charge for data browsing applies (capped at a £1.47 daily maximum).
- Calls to 0800, 0808, 0500, and 0845 numbers cost 20p per minute.
- Calls to 0870 numbers cost 12p per minute.
- Calls to 0871 numbers cost 35p per minute.
- Calls to 0844 numbers cost up to 55p per minute.
- Calls to 07 forwarding services 070 numbers cost up to 20p per minute.
- Calls to 08 and 09 numbers are charged at up to 54p per minute and £1.66 per minute respectively.
That said, if you're careful who you call outside of your calling plan they can represent good value for money.
What's more, Orange are now offering one of the lowest tariffs available for sending texts when travelling abroad in Europe. From 1st July 2009 it will cost you only 10.8p to send a text from your pay-monthly phone while in the following countries:
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, Germany, Gilbraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Martinique, Moldova, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican City, Ireland, and the Channel Islands.
