The SIM cards will work on a pay-as-you-go basis, meaning that you will be able to pop them in your phone, top up with credit, and start using the service right away with no monthly fees or catches.
It's worth noting however that some phones are 'locked' meaning that you cannot access other networks. This can be solved by requesting a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) from your current network provider, which will 'unlock' your phone and allow you to access any network of your choice.
